QH needed a test kit that was easy to learn and use with minimal error. The kit also had to be mailed to and from the user’s home and preserve the sample within.

The challenge was fitting a set of sample collection devices into a usable kit. We started by researching the process of sample collection as well as other test kits and packaging designs. We created fast prototypes of different packaging configurations and tested them with users. We illustrated and designed the instructions for the testing process which ensured that the test was administrated properly. We then created realistic mockups and samples of the finished kit and presented the designs. Once we were happy with the design, we worked with packaging producers to manufacture the design. The kit was produced and shipped to our customers across China.

The test kit was a physical kit customers received or had to experience in-store and required clear instructions and a robust design to ensure accurate sample collection.

I observed the sample collection process and spoke to staff to discovered painpoints in the process.
